2012 Medal of Honor Parade Gainesville, Texas

On Saturday, April 14th, Aaron, Archer and I drove to Gainesville, Texas, for the 2012 Medal of Honor Parade. What an incredible experience for all of us!

Per the Medal of Honor Host City Program website:

Gainesville’s Medal of Honor Host City Program is an all-volunteer, tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) corporation supported entirely by individuals and business contributions in the Gainesville area. All funds raised are allocated directly or indirectly to participating Recipients, and the amount raised each year dictates the numbers of Recipients who can be invited.
For more information about the Host City Program, visit their website.

Aaron is a former Navy Submariner - just like his Dad, Dan. My brother was also a Marine until recently. I am really proud of those who serve our military, and I'm really proud of my family for serving.

After Aaron's Dad finally retired from his job in the telecom industry, he joined the Vietnam Veterans Association (VVA) Chapter 920. Dad Washburn has become a very active member of the VVA. To show our support for him, VVA Chapter 920, and all those who serve our country, we headed North for the celebration!

What a way to kickoff the day! I've never seen a parade like this one. It lasted for over an hour, included an airshow, antique cars, tanks and other military vehicles, 15 of the 81 Medal of Honor Award Recipients that are still living, Horses, Shriners, Corvette clubs, police, search and rescue, fire engines...I could go on and on. It was incredible. Even cooler - you had the opportunity to meet all of the Medal of Honor Award Recipients in attendance after the parade. If you've never been, I'd highly recommend it! The parade is in Gainesville, Texas every year, and every year it gets a little bigger. This was my first year to attend, but I have a feeling we'll be back again next year!! Enjoy the pictures:

Archer is all smiles and giggles!
The air show begins as the parade starts.

What a sight.

Huey helicopter coming in...

He seriously go so low, you could feel a breeze! LOL.

The airshow continues.

Really gives you chills.

After the parade, we got to walk up to these beasts and meet them in person.
Archer was in awe of all of the action.
